Saturday June 16, Pacific Coast Gallery in Hermosa Beach will have the opening reception for "Fun, No Fun" featuring the life and times of Patti Astor Patti Astor will be at the gallery, and you can hear her stories about being at ground zero in the punk scene at CBGB in NYC in the mid 70s with Blondie, the Talking Heads and the Ramones, and subsequently being at the center of the downtown NYC art scene in the early 80s, as she founded and ran the FUN Gallery, helping break artists like Keith Haring and Basquiat. They will also be screening the films The Foreigner (starring Patti Astor) as well as Blank Generation, featuring footage from CBGB's in the mid 70s. Fun, No Fun will also feature new art from Rebecca Taghioff (her Spray of the Day series), Paul Roustan (bodypainting), Lori Herbst (vinyl textile art) and Drew Carolan (former assistant to Richard Avedon and famed CBGB portrait photographer). Paul Roustan will be doing live body painting in the gallery throughout the event. Fun, No Fun kicks off Saturday June 16 from 7.00-10pm, and will have an open bar featuring Egg Creams (+rum) straight from Avenue A in the East Village. The event is also a costume party, and they are giving away prizes for the best 70s and 80s punk, new wave, and hip hop clothing, so please come in your best old skool attire. The grand prize is an original photo of Black Flag from their first show at Polliwog Park in 1979, taken by SST producer SPOT. Pacific Coast Gallery is also thrilled to announce they will be exhibiting SPOT's work from Hermosa Beach in the 70s and 80s in an upcoming solo show in September.
