Q & A with Pre-Need Advanced Planning Counselor Adrienne Slaughter

How long have you been a Chamber member?
Since January 2017

When did you start your business?
Green Hills Memorial Park has been serving the community, offering beautiful options for choosing your final resting place since 1948!

What is your business all about?
We assist families in making their final arrangements both in advance and at the time of need. As a Pre-Need Advanced Planning Counselor, I help families preplan so their loved ones don’t have that responsibility on the worst day of their lives. I so enjoy making their experience personal and special by sharing an Advanced Planning Guide and then showing our beautiful rolling hills, waterfalls, gardens, views, duck pond and chapel from the 1880s! Finding what’s best for you and your family is paramount.

What makes your business unique?
What makes us unique also entails our exciting plans for the future! Planning to become the Ritz Carlton of our industry, we’re finishing a $2 million “complete renaissance” of the main building and our chapel. Plus, we’ve been developing a $6 million Inspiration Slope Mausoleum for 25+ years and it’s almost complete. Awarded the acclaimed Pinnacle Award for Stone Craftsmanship in Las Vegas this past January, this “stunning” mausoleum has 5 types of marble from a quarry in Italy, a waterfall, fresco painting on the ceilings and a personal concierge. On the highest point of our Park, you may see views from LA to the Harbor and even to Dana Point. One of the most special aspects of working here is meeting the families who wish to preplan, prepare for that time of need. Our most aggressive $32 million Endowment Care Plan ensures the embellishment, general care and upkeep of the park for generations to come!

What did you do before?
I enjoyed Advertising Sales, focusing on Restaurants, Entertainment and Sports, at the Easy Reader Publications for 15 ½ years.

How big is your staff?
Our family-run company employs approximately 75.

What is your most memorable moment with this business?
The Grand Opening on March 15th of our Inspiration Slope Mausoleum – sharing its marbled beauty with families, enjoying wine-paired appetizers and dinner catered by Bettolino Kitchen with live instrumental background music. Just a phenomenal evening!

What’s the best thing about having a business in this area?
There’s such a diverse market and a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities come to us.

What trends or insights are you finding in your field or market?
Cremation burial is becoming much more popular and we offer lots of beautiful cremation options from below ground burial, to granite wall crypts to marbled crypts and benches to elegant glass niches, to name a few.

What do you enjoy most about being a Hermosa Beach Chamber member?
Meeting the wonderful locals and small business owners and supporting the well-organized special events they put on, like the New Year’s Eve Gala on Pier Plaza, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Sidewalk Sales and especially the Fiestas! The Hermosa Beach Chamber makes OUR community a better one!

How do you like to spend your time when you're in Hermosa Beach?
As a 2-time cancer survivor, speaker and author, I enjoy inspiring and motivating friends, philanthropic groups and companies in Hermosa Beach and beyond. Loving civic involvement, I’m on the Board of Directors of the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Hermosa Friends Foundation in addition to staying active with its Kiwanis Club (past President) and its Woman’s Club (founder/chair of its annual kids cancer fundraiser, Adrienne’s Search for Children’s Cancer Cure. I also work out at the Bay Club, play tennis, snow ski, rock climb, sing background with local bands and enjoy the delicious restaurants in our community!
