How long have you been a member Scott Bilowit?
Seymour Jewelers has been a member since 1970.

What makes your business unique?
We design wedding rings and listen to our customers' concerns. We pride ourselves on being able to repair most types of jewelry and watches. Our jewelry lasts a lifetime and is handed down through family history.

How long have you been in business?
My dad started the store in 1950 and he is now 97 years old. I bought the store from my dad about 30 years ago. My daughter Sara, 18, just started working for me after she graduated from Redondo Union High School. She plans to attend the Gemological Institute of America.

What did you do before?
Only the jewelry business. Jewelry was and always will be my passion.

How big is your staff?
We have 5 people since opening 66 years ago. When my dad ran the store he worked at Hughes aircraft. While my mother worked in the store by herself during the day, my dad repaired jewelry at night.

How has the market changed since your business started?
We have added more diamonds and fine Swiss watches to our inventory to offer a wider selection. We figured out a way to have more diamonds showing rather than gold. We use new laser technology. We have a large selection of preowned fine Swiss watches and are brokers for all fine Swiss watches such as ROLEX and Breitling.

What are the plans for your business' future?
We are constantly adding new lines of jewelry. We currently have new styles of diamond jewelry that is reasonable for every budget. We also now offer "dog fever" jewelry, rings and pendants for the dog lovers of the South Bay. We can make one exactly like your dog.

What is your most memorable moment with this business?
The best thing to me has been watching jewelry be handed down throughout the family. And seeing how much people appreciate fine jewelry and craftsmanship. Also, being voted “Best Jeweler In The South Bay."

What’s the best thing about having a business in Hermosa?
Access to the beach and all the activities Hermosa Beach has to offer. It is a great little beach community and everybody is very friendly. I like having a business in Hermosa and I love the people in my town. I leave to work an hour early just to enjoy the beach and ride on The Strand every morning.

What trends or insights are you finding in your field or market?
There are many, but tradition will always prevail. That's why jewelry is handed down through families from grandfather to father to children.

When you’re not working, where in Hermosa do you like to spend your time?
Riding my bicycle on The Strand or going for a dip in the warm water, which has been in the 70s the last two summers. I love having a beer at Patrick Molloy's and The Deck. There's never a dull moment here in Hermosa Beach.
