Photographer Derek Slevin captures the spirit of humanity through the lens of homelessness; shines light on the Faces of the Forgotten
At a time when homeless populations and their controversial lifestyles fuel media reports, political debates, and social dialogue, one California-based artist is making the human side of homelessness a personal crusade.
With the help of a dedicated charitable team led by the artist and local philanthropist, Tommy Short, Derek Slevin’s Faces of the Forgotten portraiture exhibit will open July 15th at Mediterraneo (aka the Med), in Hermosa Beach. The exhibition, which will run for two weeks, showcases a selection of photographs from an extensive collection of images that have been photographed over the past five years, with the ultimate goal of helping the viewer arrive at the intersection between what it means to reside in the shadows of the streets and still maintain the dignity of being a human being.
